Dr. Brown

Welcome to WPS

Our students, parents, staff, administration, friends of education and the community are working and “walking” together with “one voice” and in lock-step to ensure that we provide the best educational environment for all of our students.

We set high expectations for student learning and staff performance.  These expectations are driven by rigorous curricula, innovative programs, research based instructional strategies, and high academic standards.  We strive to motivate and challenge students to achieve their full potential through experiences that develop intellectual, emotional, social and physical skills.

New: FAQs about Proposed Merger of Wellston and Normandy School Districts. (Dec. 15)

Central School awarded eMints Grant
The Wellston School District has been given final approval for an eMINTS grant in the amount of $232,000 for Central Elementary School.   Central Elementary is only one of ten schools across Missouri receiving a new eMINTS grant, for the 2009-2010 school year.  All Central’s third, fourth and fifth grade classrooms will be included in the Comprehensive eMINTS program.

The eMINTS instructional model is based upon (1) inquiry-based learning with (2) high-quality lesson design which creates a (3) classroom community (4) powered by technology wrapped in (5) ongoing evaluation.

eMINTS classrooms include high levels of technology for students and teachers.

  • Computers (at least one computer for every two students)
  • Teacher laptop computer
  • SMART Board (interactive whiteboard) and projector
  • Peripherals:  printer, camera, scanner
  • Software limited to productivity software and software that helps students organize notes, writing and multimedia projects.

The staff and students at Central Elementary are excited about this new way of teaching and learning.  According to Central Elementary Principal, Ms. Crissie Kirkendall, “eMINTS is a wonderful opportunity for Central students and staff.  We look forward to the academic gains our children will make.  eMINTS classrooms will help motivate the students to be successful.”
